Lance Morgan, Ph. D.

Vice President for Science, Marine Conservation Biology Institute

Since joining MCBI, Dr. Morgan has led the effort to identify priority conservation areas from Baja California to the Bering Sea for the Commission for Environmental Cooperation. He has participated in numerous dives, including living in the Aquarius Undersea Research Station (Florida Keys) for a week at a time.

Lance has cruised off the coast of Washington State looking for deep sea corals, and wrote the first report documenting where deep sea corals are found in U.S. waters. This report included threats to these unique, long-lived habitats, and the current management strategies being used to protect them.

Recently he wrote the influential Shifting Gears study which focused on collateral damage from commercial fishing, and collaborated with Living Oceans Society and the Ecology Action Centre on a similar report for Canada. He is currently the Conservation Chair of the Cordell Bank Sanctuary Advisory Council.
